JUNIOR PLAY OFF ENDS IN A DRAW. SCOUTS WIN THIRD GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP. Men’s hockey was confined to junior and third grade games on Saturday. The senior semi-final between Wesley and Carterton for the Bannin Shield was not played, Wesley being unable to. field a team. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. WESLEY AND COLLEGE DRAW. Perfect conditions prevailed for the junior championship playoff between Wesley and College and one of the most interesting and spectacular games this season was witnessed, on the Lansdowne grounds. Both teams were very evenly matched and play was very fast from start to finish. A draw (2 all) was the final result and a good indication of the play as either team would have been unlucky to have lost. It was quite a coincidence that these two teams finished up in the same position last season and were bracketed as the championship winners. * For Wesley, R. Harrington and j Wainscott scored goals, while Tooley, netted twice for College., After the game the teams were congratulated by the president of the Wairarapa Hockey Association (Mr. G. Hayne). THIRD GRADE. >, SCOUTS BEAT WESLEY. •The play-off for the third grade championship was staged on the Carterton grounds, the contestants being the Grey town Scouts and Wesley. This was a very even game which ended in favour of Grey town by 2/1. Grey town led at the interval by 1/0, G. Anker I being the scorer. Wesley evened the score early in the second spell and were showing better understanding among themselves than their opponents. However, the Greytown goalie kept them out. Greytown’s second and the winning goal was the high light of the match. Skeet his way into the circle with pretty stick work, but finding his way blocked, gave a perfect short pass to Rees who scored. WOMEN’S HOCKEY. KIA TOA CUP. The first round of the Kiatoa Cup competition was played on the Lansdowne grounds on Saturday, together with the first round for the Morris Cup in the junior division. The results wer as follow: — SENIOR Kiwi beat Carterton, 4/3. Kia Ora A beat College, 7/3. Excelsior beat Kia Ora B by default. JUNIOR. College Old Girls beat Carterton, 5/2.
