WANGANUI RACES

WIN FOR CENTREPOISE. SEAFIELD HANDICAP TO LUCULLUS LAD. (By Telegrapn—Press Association.) WANGANUI, September 7. The spring meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club opened today in fine but bleak weather, a cold westerly wind making conditions very unpleasant. Because of the petrol restrictions the number of motor-cars on the course' was appreciably lessened and the attendance correspondingly affected, but considering the circumstances, the club did well to put £11,135 10s through the machine, a decrease of only £1,478 10s for the day. Lucullus Lad, who had not raced since February, scored his second successive win in the Seafield Handicap and did it well. He led throughout, and in the middle stages was going so well that he had all the others well held. Notium. The Bigot, and Gayest Son. the latter making a fast run down the back, .followed the leader in the running, but nothing ever had a chance of catching Lucullus Lad.
