NEW ZEALAND RATES ANNOUNCED TERRITORIALS & RESERVISTS ADDITIONAL ALLOWANCES FOR DEPENDANTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Rates of pay and allowances for members of the New Zealand Territorial Force and of Class 11. of the National Military Reserve who have been mobilised for coast defence and for the guarding of vital points and other garrison duties were announced yesterday by the Minister of Defence. Mr Jones. These rates will apply also to any other force that may" be organised for service. In the meantime, they affect nearly 2000 men already under arms in New Zealand. The daily rates of pay vzill be:—

These rates will not apply to the regular military forces. Civil servants called up or enlisted for service will be granted leave of absence without pay. and the amount of their superannuation contributions while serving will be paid by the Government. SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS. The Social Security contribution of members of the Territorial Force, the National Military Reserve, or any special force called up or enlisted for service in connection with the war emergency will be paid by the Government. Dependants’ allowances for all ranks will be: —(a) On account of wife or guardian of motherless chilcj or children under 16 years of age, 3s; (b) On account of each dependent child under 16 years of age (up to limit of five children), Is 6d; (c) On account of widowed mother dependent on the soldier, Is 6d. In addition to the foregoing, privates and lance-corporals, while carrying out any of the following duties, will receive an extra Is a day, to cease on termination of the duty or on promotion to a rank higher than that of lance-corporal:—-Armourer, baker, bootmaker, butcher, dental mechanic, farrier, fitter, engine-driver, motor-, mechanic, orderly-room clerk, saddler, shoeing smith, wheeler. A man required to act as a cook will earn 2s 6d 'a day in addition to the pay of his rank whatever it may be. A camp allowance, at the under-men-tioned daily rates, will be granted to the officers, Warrant officers, and noncommissioned officers specified:—Colonel, ss; lieutenant-colonel. ss. major, 4s, other commissioned ranks and members of the nursing service, 3s; warrant officers and non-commissioned officers above the rank of sergeant, Is 6d. All, officers and men alike, will be required to allot portion of their pay for the benefit of their dependants. Minimum weekly allotments will be: — Single man, 14s; married man without children, £2; married man with one child, £2 15s; married man with two children, £3 10s; married man with three children. £4. Nurses enrolled for service in military hospitals will be paid at the following daily rates: —Matron, 15s: charge sister, 13s; sister, 11s; staff nurses, 9s.

In addition, nurses will receive the same camp allowances as lower commissioned officers, 3s a day.

On a weekly basis, an unmarried private will be paid £2 9s and a private with a wife and five children £6 2s 6d. Similarly, the pay of a sergeant will range, according to the number of dependants, from £2 19s 6d a week to £6 13s a week. The pay of a colonel will range from £8 15s a week to £l2 8s 6d a week.
