NO CONSCRIPTION FOR SERVICE OVERSEAS STATEMENT BY MR MENZIES. SPEEDING UP OF AIRCRAFT PRODUCTION. (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The Prime Minister, Mr R. G. Menzies, declared in the House of Representatives that there would be no conscription of Australian manpower for service overseas. The Minister of Defence. Mr G. A. Street, reviewing the defence preparalions. said the steps taken in Australia to meet the war situation include the speeding up of aircraft production and (he manufacture of munitions at high pressure. To prevent exploitation and profiteering the Federal Government intends to control the prices of all commodities. As a basis for this system, prices current on August 31 will be fixed for certain goods to be proclaimed.
