SHEEP SHIPMENT
STOCK FOR SOUTH AFRICA. FINE BREEDS REPRESENTED. One of the largest and most comprehensive shipments of sheep ever made from New Zealand is'leaving for Australian on its way to Durban, South Africa. The shipment has been made by Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and is consigned to their stud stock agents for South Africa, Ferguson and Hillary. The shipment’s final destination is Pietermaritzburg, and there is no doubt that these sheep will be a big asset to breeders in South Africa. The sheep are all one and two-shear stud rams singly entered in the New Zealand Stud Book, and are all drawn from leading breeders in the Dominion. Mr Haydon, head of Dalgety and Company’s stud stock department for New Zealand, has personally selected the North Island sheep, and Mr J. Smith, stud stock officer for Dalgety and Company at Christchurch, has been responsible for the sheep selected from the South Island.
Excellent sheep of the Southdown breed have been drawn from both islands and come from such well-known breeders as Mr G. E. Allen, “Tipua,” Masterton; and Mr E. C. White, “Manaia,” Masterton.
Romney Marsh breeders represented include Mr C. J. Nix, “Waipoto,” Featherston; Mr G. E. Allen, “Tipua,” Masterton and Mr L. R. Wilton, Rangitumau, Masterton. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., are making arrangements with their Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle branches for Australian breeders to inspect the sheep as they pass through their ports, and the consignment will demonstrate not only to South Africa, but also to Australia the excellent quality of Border Leicester's, English Leicester, Romney Marsh, Corriedales and Southdowns that are obtainable in the Dominion.
