RAIDS ON WARSAW
MUCH DAMAGGE IN CITY BATTLES IN SILESIA GERMANS REPORT EXTENDED ADVANCE. POLES ADMIT TERRITORIAL LOSSES. , WARSAW, Sept. 5. The capital suffered further air raids by 70 German planes, while the flames from the buildings set afire by the earlier attack were lighting up the evening sky. Anti-aircraft guns scattered the oncoming planes, three of which powerdived and bombed from a low altitude. The streets are deep with broken glass from shattered windows. The communique claims that Poles shot down 17 German planes and lost eight themselves. Already 24 German airmen are imprisoned in a suburb of Warsaw. About 12 of them are suffering from head wounds resulting from parachute jumps. The Polish staff admits that it has been forced to abandon Bydgoszcz, south of the Corridor. The capture of Czestochowa, it is reported, seriously endangers Katowice. A Berlin communique claims that troops on the Silesian front captured Nove Sviecie, Katowice and Mlawa. it claims that 15,000 were taken prisoner and that troops have reached the neighbourhood of Cracow. HEAVY FIGHTING MEASURE OF SUCCESS CLAIMED BY POLES. (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 5. A British United Press Paris correspondent reports that fighting is proceeding in German territory on both sides of the Corridor. The Poles pushed a powerful force of infantry and cavalry back across the western border, due west of Gdynia. COLUMN OF FLAME SEEN IN FRIEDRICHSHAVEN REGION. A United Press Zurich correspondent says Swiss frontier posts have reported that they had seen a column of flame shoot into the air in the direction of the German city of Friedrichshaven, accompanied by a violent detonation. “NORMAL PROGRESS” FRENCH WAR COMMUNIQUE.
