Britain’s War Policy.
A United Press London correspondent states that Parliament completed the passage of a Bill requiring all persons in Britain to register for national service.
Borough Endowment. Work in the construction of the new woolshed and yards on the Masterton Borough Council’s endowment at Mangaone is well under way. Upon the completion of the woolshed a start will be made with the erection of a new residence.
Bequests to Charity. Probate has been granted of the will of the late Mrs. Emily Porter, Auckland. whose death occurred on August 15, and the estate has been valued at under £lOO,OOO. The will contains provision for three charitable bequests each of £2oo—to the Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals, to the St. John Ambulance Society, Auckland. and to the Salvation Army for its Eventide Home at Mount Eden. Mrs Porter, who was in her 87th year, was born in Sussex and came to New Zealand with her sister, the late Lady Brett, in 1864. She married the late Mr. Alfred Porter in 1871 and became known for her many . private .benefactions.
