SOUTH AFRICA

REPORTED CABINET SPLIT ON QUESTION OF SUPPORTING BRITAIN. SEVEN TO SIX DIVISION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, September 3. Reuter’s Cape Town correspondent says that the Union Cabinet is scheduled to meet this morning. It is reported to have split on the question of supporting Britain at a prolonged meeting last night. It is understood that the members are divided seven to six in favour of co-operation with the British Commonwealth as opposed to neutrality.

A radio report states that General Hertzog (Prime Minister) read a declaration of policy to the effect that South Africa’s relations with various belligerents should persist unchanged and that existing obligations continue unchanged.
