Judge Sheppard, of the Native Land Court, is a visitor to Masterton, and is staying at the Empire Hotel. Mr L. Taylor, a student at the Otago University, who has been visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs L. J. Taylor, Queen Street, Masterton, has returned to Dunedin.
Canon Percival James, formerly of St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, Wellington, was to have preached in Westminster Abbey last Sunday, according to a private letter received in Wellington yesterday. Guests at the Empire Hotel, Masterton, include Messrs H. Masters (Mamara, Australia), W. S. Mackey (Gisborne), D. Caldwell (Fiji), R. M. McLean (Wellington), G. Boswell (Wellington), M. J. Akel (Wellington), W. T. Tate (Wellington), E. Gilbert (Wellington), and H. Whateme (Wellington).
Several staff changes at the Woodville School have taken place with the resumption of work for the spring term. In place of Mr R. Hurdle, who has gone to Wairoa district, Mr F. E. Woods has been appointed. Mr B. Webley has gone to Otorohanga, her place as relieving teacher being filled by Miss E. M. Ganderton, of Waipukurau. The Rev. Lawrence A. North has accepted the invitation of the Vivian Street Baptist Church, Wellington, to become its minister, and will take up his duties in November. Mr. North who was for some years minister of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, Christchurch, has' been stationed in Wellington for the last year as general secretary of the Baptist Union of New Zealand.
