NORTH ISLAND TOURNEY SINGLES TO HAWKSWORTH. COMBINED DOUBLES WON BY MASTERTON PAIR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. P. E. Hawksworth, of Masterton, New Zealand’s outstanding badminton player, scored a personal triumph in the North Island and Wellington badminton championships, which concluded at the Winter Show Stadium, Wellington, on Saturday night. He won the singles, the men’s doubles with G. A. Pearce, and the mixed doubles with Mrs Hawksworth. Miss Nancy Fleming won the women’s singles and’ Mrs Hawksworth and Miss Mavis Kerr, New Zealand singles champion, won the women's, doubles title in the most exciting game of the night. Results are as follow:— A GRADE. Men’s Singles.—Final: .P. Hawksworth beat E. A. Roussell, 15-11, 15-4. Women’s Singles—Final: Miss N. Fleming beat Miss F. Fernie, 12-10 11-3. Men’s Doubles.—Final: P. Hawks-, worth and. G. Pearce beat E. A. Roussell and E. Ridyard, 15-6, 15-5. Women’s Doubles—Semifinal: Mrs Hawksworth and Miss Kerr beat Misses Berry and Phillips, 15.11,15-1. Final: Mrs Hawksworth and Miss Kerr beat Misses Fleming and Fernie, 15-2, 18-14. Combined Doubles.—Final P. Hawksworth and Mrs Hawksworth beat G. Pearce and Miss Kerr, 15-1, 15-6.
B GRADE. Men’s Singles.—Final: A. Blake beat T. McLean, 21-8. Men’s Doubles.—Final: C. Collins and R. Dickens beat G. Bews and H Liver, 24-19. Women’s Doubles.—Misses I. Blundell and M. Clark beat J. HAWKE’S BAY B GRADE MATCH. : WIN FOR HAWKE’S BAY TEAM, i The Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay B grade teams met at the Drill Hall, Hastmgs, on Saturday night when a most enjoyable time was spent, the Wairarapa team suffering defeat by 16 matches to 8.
