REPLY TO BRITISH ULTIMATUM Reasons for Rejection ENCOURAGEMENT OF POLAND REFUSAL TO WITHDRAW TROOPS (By Telegraph.—Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, September 3. Germany’s Note says, firstly, that the. German people are not in a position to accept or fulfil any British ultimatum. Secondly, it alleges that the British Government nullified anv German attempts at peaceful settlement. Thirdly, it contends that the British Government approved and encouraged Polish steps against Danzig and the Geiman minority, saying that Britain rejected Signor Mussolini s proposal for a settlement although Germany declared her willingness to accept the suggestion. . . 'Fourthly, Germany could not tolerate conditions on her Eastern border similar to those in Palestine. Fifthy, Germany therefore reject® the ultimatum to withdraw German troops.
