COSY THEATRE
“SOCIETY SMUGGLERS.” A timely, realistic drama that might find its counterpart in the crime investigation files of the United States Treasury Department, is unfolded in “Society Smugglers,” one of the two attractions showing at the Cosy Theatre tomorrow night. The story of the drama deals with a powerful smuggling ring operating in New York City behind the respectable 'front of a luggage company Action' begins when Irene Hervey as a “T”-Women, is planted in the company’s office to obtain evidence. Meanwhile, her co-wor-kers, played by Preston Foster and Regis Toomey,,employ radio recording devices, assumed identities and finally gunplay to clinch their case against the powerful gang. A vivacious young musical comedy star was chosen to portray the leading role in Columbia’s picturisation of Chic Young’s newspaper comic strip, “Blondie,” the second feature on the programme. The talented Arthur Lake appears opposite Miss Singleton as Dagwood, with four-year-old, blueeyed Larry Simms as an ideal Baby Dumpling- Rollicking fun and farcical situations, blended with emotional touches are the prime characteristics of this excellent screen entertainment. The story rises to a hilarious comedy climax. Miss Singleton and young Lake are superb as the married couple. Larry Simms is a lovable Baby Dumpling, and another four-year-old. Dan Mummert. proves a scene-stealer as Baby Dumpling's playmate.
