NATIONAL WELFARE

MEETING OF WOMEN’S LEAGUE. The monthly meeting of the Women’s National Welfare League was held in the Midland Hotel, Masterton, yesterday afternoon. There were present: Miss Kummer (in the chair), Mesdames Daniell. Charleson, Reynolds, McCracken. Watson, Whyborn, Harrison, Glen, Misses Wilson, Guild, Cameron and Boddington. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Fletcher, Drummond,. Munn, Kilgour and Jordan.

The activities of the League during the past month have consisted in visits paid to the hospital. Owing to the visit of the Martinborough Institute to the Buchanan Home the League did not make its usual monthly, trip. Arrangements were made for'visits to the hospital and Buchanan Home for the current month.

In the absence of Mrs H. E. 'Pither, Miss Kummer reported that the visit of the Band of the Blind Institute, Auckland, had been set down for October 17. It is hoped to arrange for two performances—one at Wairarapa College in the afternoon and the other in the evening at the Municipal Hall. Miss Kummer reported also that a large order for linen baskets made by the Institute had been received from the Masterton Hospital. A grant of £5 from the Macarthy Trust is gratefully acknowledged by the League.
