EMPIRE FOODSHIPS
BIG REFRIGERATION SPACE. < SHIP FOR NEW ZEALAND TRADE. Another motor cargo vessel for service in the Australian and New Zealand trades has been launched at the Belfast shipyards of Harland and Wolff for the Shaw Savill Line, making the fifth of a class of almost identical Empire foodships with large refrigeration facilities built for this line. She has been'given the Maori name of Waiotira, her sister-ships are Waiwera, Wairangi and Waimarama. The new ship is 13,000 tons gross and A will have refrigerated cargo spaces <-'x< ceeding 500,000 cubic feet, of which” 110,009 will be specially fitted for the carriage of chilled meat. Her general cargo spaces measure about 250,000 cubic feet, giving a total cargo capacity of 750,000 cubic feet. Special attention has also been given to the crew’s accommodation, which will be in advance of the recent Board of Trade regulations; the crew will be berthed amidships and aft in two-berth cabins with cot berths. Twelve passengers will be carried in eight singlebedstead and two double-bedstead cabins, and there will be a dining salooi}, smoke-room and lounge for them.
