GERMAN INVASION OF POLAND
PREdPITAIK EUROPEAN WAR BRITAIN AND FRANCE TO FULFIL OBLIGATIONS (Press Association Extraordinary.) (Received This Day, 10.48 a.m.) LONDON, September 1. The British and French Ambassadors in Berlin have been instructed to hand to the German Government a joint Note stating that information has been received indicating that German troops have crossed the Polish frontier and that attacks on Polish towns are proceeding, and informing Germany that unless an assurance is given that the German Government has suspended all aggressive action, obligations to Poland will be fulfilled. The Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain), in the House of Commons, ■ said: “If the reply to this last warning is unfavourable, and I do not suggest it is likely to be otherwise, the British Ambassador is instructed to ask for his passport”
Alliance Invoked POLAND ASKS FOR BRITISH AID 1 LONDON, September 1. Cabinet will meet at 11.30 a.m. and the Privy Council at 1 p.m. The Polish Ambassador, Count Kaczynski, arrived at the Foreign Office at 10.40 a.m. A POLISH OFFICIAL SOURCE HAS INFORMED THE UNITED PRESS OF AMERICA THAT' POLAND HAS INVOKED HER MILITARY ALLIANCE WITH BRITAIN AND ASKED FOR AID. Intense activity continued in Whitehall throughout the night. Crowds lingered late to watch the Ministers coming and going.
