WAITING FOR NEWS
INTERNATIONAL SITUATION THE ONE TOPIC.
RESERVISTS ANSWER SUMMONS.
Many Masterton residents sat up the greater part of the night listening to broadcasts from Daventry of news of the international situation. This morn < ing, several Masterton radio dealers provided facilities so that the public coujd listen in to the latest developments and at various points in Queen Street small assemblies of people gathered to hear the announcements. Elsewhere, groups of citizens discussed the possibilities of the situation. Several reservists, including air pilots, answered the call to the colours this morning, and according to arrangements made a month ago. a number of local Territorials left Masterton this afternoon for Trentham, where they are to undergo a recruits course.
In consequence of the momentous events overseas, business in town was rather slack this morning, though it became brisker towards midday.
