HITLER’S DEMANDS

AN AMERICAN REPORT IMMEDIATE POSSESSION WANTED. DANZIG & THE CORRIDOR. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. NEW YORK, August 31. The Washington correspondent of the "New York Times" states that according to apparently authentic information- received in diplomatic circles Herr Hitler, in reply to Britain, made the following four points: — (1) He was prepared to negotiate with Poland. (2) He desired that a Polish negotiator with the Reich visit Berlin today. (3) Before undertaking any territorial guarantees he would have to consult Russia. (4) Before signing any agreement with Poland he would have to consult Britain. These points were apart from a well-understood condition that Herr Hitler is demanding as a prerequisite the immediate possession of the Polish Corridor and Danzig. The reply by Britain is reported to have declared that the prerequisite and some other point was unsatisfactory but to have urged that the negotiations be kept open. London is understood to entertain a genuine belief that Herr Hitler will do at least this much. POLISH ENVOYS NOT GOING TO BERLIN. WITHDRAWAL FROM SLOVAKIA DEMANDED. LONDON, August 31. Mr Vernon Barlett, writing in the "News Chronicle,” says that Poland has rejected Herr Hitler’s proposal that Polish envoys should go to Berlin to negotiate a settlement, after which, according to Mr Bartlett, Herr Hitler would be ready to discuss a general settlement with Britain. He adds that Britain pointed out to Herr Hitler that Polish and German equality could only obtain if the discussions occurred on neutral ground. The Poles themselves, adds Mr Bartlett. are likely to go further, insisting that there can be no equality till the German troops are withdrawn from Slovakia. SWISS NEUTRALITY NOTES SENT TO POWERS. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) BERNE, August 31. Switzerland is sending Notes to Germany, Italy and France, containing declarations of neutrality.
