PETROL TAX
INCREASE DENOUNCED AS INEQUITABLE. MOVE FOR DOMINION-WIDE PROTEST. (By Telegrapn —Cress Association.) AUCKLAND. August 30. In accordance with its recent protest against the increase of 4d a gallon in the petrol tax. the Automobile Association (Auckland) has sent circulars to its 33,000 members, inviting their co-operation in presenting a united front and raising a Dominion-wide clamour for equality in the imposition of taxation. The circular contains a copy of a combined protest already sent to the Prime Minister by the North Island and South Island Motor Unions. ' Consideration of ways and means of obtaining relief from the overwhelming burden of taxation, which now rests upon the road-users of the Dominion is exercising acutely the administrators of organised motoring.” states the association in its circular. “Whether or not a motor-vehicle owner is a member, we wish to stress the fact that the strength and influence of the automobile association movement in New Zealand appeals for practical interest and support in givingvolume and vehemence to the protest against the imposition of further unjustifiable class taxation just announced. “If you arc in accord with the principle, you are urged to communicate at once with the member of Parliament for your electorate, and support the protest which has already been made.’’
