SPECTACULAR RISE IN FAT SHEEP PRICES. CATTLE VALUES ALSO ADVANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 30. A short entry of fat sheep saw a spectacular rise in values at the sale held in Addington today. The improvement for best wethers was to 10s a head and for best ewes to Bs. Fewer than 1000 head were forward in the store sheep pens. A steady demand resulted for better class sheep, late rates being maintained. A pen of good two-tooth wethers sold to 16s. A pen of medium sorts made 12s 4d. A truck of two-tooth halfbred ewes made 225, and small ewe hoggets 12s 3d. The entry of between 2500 and 3000 fat sheep was the smallest foi' some time. Following the small entry of last week, there was a distinct shortage. Numeious pens of wethers ranged from about 47s to 50s, and ewes from about 36s to 38s. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 54s Id, prime heavy 42s to 465, prime medium 37s to 41s, light to 28s; extra prime heavy ewes to 42s lOd, prime heavy 34s to 375, prime medium 31s to 335, light 21s to 245. The entry of 330 fat cattle was the smallest of the season. The sale opened at a sharp advance on the rates of last week, averaging about 25s a head for prime mediumweights. There was an improvement, in cases, of 30s a head. Good beef averaged 44s to 46s a 1001 b, and there was little of quality that ruled at less than 40s. Extra prime heavy steers made to £2l 2s 6d, prime heavy £l6 15s to £l7 15s, prime medium £l4 10s to £l6 10s, light to £ll ss; extra prime heifers to £l6 2s 6d, prime £ll 10s to £l3, medium £lO to £ll ss, light to £9 15s; extra prime cows to £l5 12s 6d, prime £lO 5s to £l2 ss, medium £8 to £lO, light to £7 15s. The yarding of porkers was the smallest for some time and prices advanced about 2s to 3s a head. Choppers were in medium supply and again met good competition. There was a medium-sized entry of baconers and the sale compared favourably with that of last week, which was the best of the season. Porkers made £2 Is 6d to £3 0s 6d, an average price a lb of 7d to 7Jd; and baconers made £3 5s 6d to £5 5s 6d, an average price a lb of Gijd to 7?d- Choppers made £3 Hs to £6 Is.
