MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. At the weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club held last evening in the clubroom, Municipal Buildings, Mr A. Dewar, D.8.E.A., presided over a very satisfactory attendance of members.
Correspondence in Esperanto received from abroad during the week and presented to the meeting comprised letters from Sweden and England and the official organ of the Esperantist Scouts’ League, the headquarters of which are located at Ipswich, England.
The secretary, Mr W. H. King, outlined the relationship existing between the Esperanto and Scout movements. Founded in 1918, the Esperantist Scouts’ League is now one of the strongest sections within the framework of the Esperanto movement, and the aim of solidification of the sentiment of universal brotherhood is common to both movements. That this aim is being accomplished is demonstrated in the facts that the league now has national agents in 30 countries and that already international jamborees for Esperantist Scouts have been held in England, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, France, Sweden, Hungary, Holland, Poland and Switzerland. Tuition of a varied and educational nature occupied over an hour of the proceedings. This embraced reading at sight, conversational practice, the study of special words and analysing. An anecdote entitled “Kalkulado" (arithmetic) was presented in the international language by Mr A. G. Wiltshire.
The meeting concluded with the singing of the theme song “Nun Venas la Hor!” (Now is the Hour).
