DRESS PARADE
MASTERTON TERRITORIAL COMPANY PUBLIC GREATLY IMPRESSED. — PROMOTIONS ANNOUNCED. Keen public interest was shown in the dross parade of C Company, Hawke's Bay Regiment, in the Drill Hall last night. Executive members of the Masterton Territorial Association were considerably impressed and expressed their admiration of the splendid work being carried out under effi-'-ient N.C.Oi’s. The presence of members of the gentler sex among the spectators in no way embarrassed the men. who all carried out their duties smartly aiid efficiently. The parade began with ten minutes of rifle exercises, un'der SergeantMajor C. E. Rogers. The platoon sergeants then took charge. The, bayonet' fighting exorcises under the direction oi Corporal A. W. Thompson were particularly well done, attracting considerable attention. Lewis gun drill and mechanism examination were carried out under Corporal P' Wingfield. The stripping and assembly of tile Lewis gun were also featured. Rapid-fire rifle training, using "dummy" ammunition was efficiently done. The sections all took part in the exercises. Captain 1 C. J. Williaifis, commanding officer, addressed the men, and commented on the keerjness which was in evidence and expressed satisfaction with the work being' carried' out. Promotions were then made and Com-paiiy-Sergeant-Major S. K. Welch dismissed the men. Promotions made were: Sergeant J. K. Welch to Company-Sergeant-Maj-of; Corporal H. V. Donald to Sergeant; Corporal A. M. Kennedy to' Sergeant; Lance-Corporal’ A. W. Thompson to Corporal; Lance-Corporal P. Wingfield to Corporal; Private B! P. Patrick to Corporal; Privates G. E. Sewell, A. H. Deller. R. EaSthbpe. Hi y. Mason. A. G. Harrington mid' Ji B. Rutherford to be Lance-. Corporals. N.C.O. classes are being held on Thursday evenings from 6'30 to 7.30 o’clock. Corporal H. V. Donald recently sat for a commission in the local’unit, and having passed His practical test, awaits his theoretical examination. Members of the local unit wish him every success. The following will attend a recruits’ course at Trentham from’ September 2 to September 9: Privates A; W. Harp, H. Cdrlett, J'. D. Whyte, F. J. Knowles, C. J. Carle, K. Forrest, W. S. Nicol; D, J. Carruthers, A. E. Hack, A; J'. King. C. E. Clarke: The above meh’will leave Masterton on Saturday afternoon’ by the 2 o’clock mail 1 train for Wellington and will travel’ in full dress military uniform. Sergeant-Major C. E. Rogers will be only too pleased' to answer 1 any questions concerning the course. Recruits are reminded to take boot’ and button cleaning gear, shaving outfit, etd. Blankets. etc, will be supplied.
