The destructive nature of rats was shown recently under a house in Devonport. Auckland, when the lead waste pipes from the washhouse and sink were found to be gnawed through as though cut by a blunt saw. by rats which wanted to clear the way to get under the flooring boards, when they would have soon gnawed their way into the house. New pipes had to be put in at considerable expense, but poison was laid near the spot, and severe 101 l was taken of the rats.
