“A Bit Too Civilised."
That the Christchurch Botanic Gardens were being made “a bit too civilised" was an opiniin expressed by the chairman (Mr C. Flavell) at a meeting of the Heathcote County Council. “I am rather afraid that our gardens will soon be like England, with notices all over the place warning people to keep off the grass.” he said. “1 think they arc going a bit too far and are growing too many Howers. We don’t want it all down in gardens. 1 think there is u distinct danger of taking away a lot of the beauty of the place." Cr F. W. Freeman said he thought the Domains Board was prol, ably faced with a Labour duti<.ulty.
