SPRING CREATIONS

f EXCITING FASHION NEWS ADDING TO WOMAN’S BEAUTY.

- JPULL Peasant Skirts are shown t everywhere at Hugo and Shearer’s 1 Spring display with all sorts of pleats, 2 pleated and bell parts for morning use. Much in vogue are curved or pointed f yokes and those wide girdles, somei times selected in another material or - colour. On one of the handsome models ■ in Hugo's Queen Street showroom, the > shoulder yoke is cut with flaps topping the breast pockets, put on very high indeed. Exciting fashion news are one sided ! garnitures, like pockets, pleating or : revers which are to be noted on the sportish little frock in summer 1939. ; All these frocks done in light coloured ; tub silk or linen are worn with short ; jackets hardly reaching to the hips, ’ done in contrasting tissue. Boleros, long or short, wide or slim, are the rage this time, followed by short cape- , lets or else by little vestees looking ' like waistcoats. Tucks are stylish ' trimming effects, from the wide ones , up to the handsewn pin tucks, presented by all the dress collections of spring. One of the most handsome models is made of pale violet washing silk, displaying skirt parts ascending in curves to the delicately tucked wide shoulder yoke. The skirt itself is confectioned of slender sections. The effects of pin tucks are naturally shown on collar and sleeves, too! Waistcoat effects in a contrasting colour or in white are other possibilities of the present fashion. Some longer jackets are worn with the suits. One of the latter consists of blue and white striped mannish woollen and has long revers reaching to the first button. A new effect is attained by material bands cut in another direction used as jacket border. Lots of printed frocks are worn on afternoons. Here, too. the yoke pays a great role. As some models are really too short, petticoats with ruffled or scalloped hem-lines are worn with them, which are a bit longer than the dress skirt, hardly covering the knees. Pleats which were the favourites of the spring season, may be also remarked in the summer frocks, but apart from these, effects of fagoting as well as ruffles of every sort, often pleated. Flaring flounces, joined in festoons, may be recommended to slim figures as they are exceeding youthful and exclusive for summer. Lovely garniture ideas are expressed by white pique and other lingerie materials which are pleated, tucked and used in the shape of plastrons, loops or scalloped banding round the neck of the fair wearer. Literally hundreds of fancyful afternoon coats will be shown for the hot season, many of them in the almost classic black wool or satin but also in wool and silk mixture in different fashion tints. Some of them show bands forming spirals, others again white rovers or pointed collars. Nearly all of them are nibbed-in at sides while their bottom is ample, even flaring out considerably. Real sportswear is expressed by many loden wraps, divided skirts and ample, beltless coats as well as by suits reminiscent of peasant fashions with coloured revers, leaf shaped pocket appliques and piping. With the little summer suits graceful blouses trimmed with Valenciennes, festoons, pleats, ruffles and jabots of great womanliness will be worn. Hugo and Shearer’s new season’s display shows most clearly the new season’s styles. The current display is a glorious fashion show bringing to Wairarapa women all the newest in spring and summer creations.
