BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED
GATHERING AT CARTERTON. PRESENTATION TO MRS A. KING. (“Times-Age” Special ) A very enjoyable and unique gathering took place at St. Mark’s Parish Hall on Thursday afternoon when members of St. Mark’s Guild and friends to the number of 40 gathered to pay honour to Mrs Alfred King, of Rexwood Street. On behalf of Mrs Stent, who was unable to be present owing to illness, the Rev. W. F. Stent spoke in glowing terms of the excellent service rendered to the church and in other directions by Mrs King over a period of 45 years. Thursday was Mrs King's birthday and this was also fittingly celebrated. Mrs Charles Fairbrother, the oldest vice-president, presented Mrs King with a large framed photograph of lhe Chancel of St. Mark’s Church. She was also presented with a posy of flowers by Mrs A. Pink, and a very beautiful bouquet from relatives. Birthday greetings were received from the choir of the League of Mothers and from many others. Mrs H. Knutson, on behalf of the Guild, also spoke of Mrs King's valuable work in the service of the church etc. Mrs King very feelingly replied and thanked those present foi’ Xheir kind thoughts. Visitors were in attendance from Longbush and Featherston. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Hornsby, Stent, L. Aplin. W. Williams, B. Williams. O. Brazendalo Misses P. Telford, D. Armstrong and Edwards.
Mrs L. Knutson sang two vocal items which were greatly appreciated. A dainty afternoon tea brought to a conclusion a very happy gathering.
