CARTERTON
WOMEN’S DIVISION CARNIVAL IN AID OF REST ROOM. ("Times-Age” Special.) The baby carnival which is being held by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union to provide funds for the erection of a ladies’ rest room near the Plunket Society’s building in Broadway, is creating considerable interest. The various committees are working hard for their respective district babies. The votes recorded up till last night are as follow: — Parkvale district: Baby Rayner, 4380. Dalefield district: Baby Fitzgerald, 3552. Belvedere-Taratahi district: Baby Corbett, 3120. COMMUNITY SING. The Bandroom, Carterton, was crowded last evening when a community sing in aid of the Belvedere-Clare-ville baby in the Women’s Division carnival was held. Mr Don Irwin led the Community Sing when many old and modern songs were heartily given voice to by those present, the proceedings being much enjoyed by all. Items were also given by Mr Don Irwin and a duet nicely rendered by Misses Beryl Busby and Moria Sewell. Cakes, flowers and produce were there in abundance and Mr Dan Jensen, in his usual genial manner, made an excellent auctioneer. Under his able management many items of produce were knocked down to bidders at a good price, the result of which will materially help the candidature of Baby John Corbett. Mrs Rogers, of Dalefield, assisted by Mr P. L. Darke, played the accompaniments and other music. BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING ON TUESDAY. The monthly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council will be held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday night at 7.30 o’clock. DANCE AT PARKVALE A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. Renall, and tap dancing by the Misses Morgan (2) and Miss B. James, all of whicn were much enjoyed. A euchre tournament for non-dancers resulted in the prizes being won by Mrs T. Olliver and Mrs W. Adlam (ladies), and Messrs Edwards and W. Andrews (men). A competition for a prize in aid of the school funds was won by Mrs E. T. Phelps. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr and Mrs Edwards. The music for the dance was supplied by Mr J. Edwards and extras were played by Miss N. Renall, Mrs J. Turley (piano-accordion), Mr N. James and Mr F. Sewell (piano-accordion). Mr N. Rose was an efficient M.C. There were many fancy dresses worn which added to the gaiety of the dance. A list of these will appear in Monday’s “TimesAge.” Personal. Mr W. B. Allen, of Clareville, has found it necessary to again enter the South Wairarapa hospital for treatment. His condition .is reported satisfactory. Scout Entertainment. For weeks past the Boy Scouts have been preparing for their entertainment which will take place in the King’s Theatre, Carterton, on Tuesday evening next. The proceeds are in aid of the Scout Funds and to assist in covering the expenses of the troop which has been selected to represent Carterton at the Jamboree during the Centennial celebrations. The Scout movement is worthy of the support of every citizen, and it is hoped that Tuesday evening’s entertainment will be rewarded with a packed house. A firstclass programme has been arranged and a treat is in store for those who attend.
