EVENTS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. HAWKSWORTH BEATEN BY LEWIS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH. August 25. P. Hawksworth (Masterton) triple New Zealand badminton champion, was beaten tonight in the semi-final of the national tournament in New Plymouth by R. H. Lewis (Auckland), runner-up last year. Lewis will meet J. Spedding (Taranaki) in the final tonight. The women’s final will be between Miss F. Fernie (Wellington) and Miss M. Kerr (Dunedin). Results of semi-finals are:— Men’s singles: J. Spedding (Taranaki) beat J. Payton (Wairarapa), 15-7, 15-8; R. Lewis (Auckland) beat P. Hawksworth (Wairarapa, holder), 11-15, 15-7, 15-10. Women’s singles: Miss F. Fernie (Wellington) beat Miss Payton (Wairarapa), 11-3, 11-15; Miss M. Kerr (Otago) beat Miss Edmonson (Waikato), 7-11, 11-5, 11-3. Men’s doubles: Hawksworth and G. A. Pearce (Wellington) beat P. Anderson (Auckland) and L. Vesty (Hawke’s Bay), 15-8. 15-7; C. L. Sherrin (Mana, watu) and Pay ton beat M- T. Wilson and R. H. Lewis ’ (Auckland), 15-4, 10-15, 18-14. Women’s doubles: Misses J. Ramsay and Wade (Auckland) beat Misses N. i Fleming and Fernie, 10-15, 18-15, 15-9; Mrs Hawksworth and Miss Kerr beat | Misses Edmonson and Greaves (Wa-, nganui), 15-11, 15-2.
Mixed doubles. —Hawksworth and Mrs Hawksworth beat P. Anderson (Auckland) and Miss Berry (Wellington), 15-6, 15-8; Pearce and Miss Kerr beat Spedding and Miss D. McCarthy (Taranaki), 15-6, 15-17,-15-10.
