DEATH IN LONDON

MISS IRIS WILKINSON HIGH COMMISSIONER GIVES EVIDENCE. VERDICT AT INQUEST. (By Telegraph—Press Associa‘<on.) (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, August 25. The New Zealand High Commissioner (Mr W. J. Jordan), giving evidence at the inquest on Iris Wilkinson ("Robin Hyde ") said that in response to a telephone call, he visited Miss Wilkinson's flat on Monday. She was in bed crying She was a cripple and her health had been bad for a considerable time. He endeavoured to persuade her to return to New Zealand, but she seemed concerned about the financial arrangements for a new play. He lent her money and his daughter bought her provisions. He learned after Miss Wilkinson’s death that she was £23 in credit at the bank. The Coroner: “Her poverty seemed to be a delusion?” Mr Jordan: "She did not tell me she was in need, but she was so poorly that I did not like to question her.” A verdict of suicide was returned.
