Survey of Other European Capitals GERMANS NOT ANTICIPATING WAR CONDITIONS IN ITALY AND HUNGARY (By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received This Dav, 12.2;) p.m.) LONDON. August 21. A survey of several capitals in Europe has shown that London is calm, despite ominous reports Hooding in from the Continent. . “The Times” Berlin correspondent says briions are leavhm- Germany, vet there is general confidence in Germany that there will be no war. If war does come, the moral shock will be tremendous, for the public is completely unprepared for it and unable to grasp any reason why France and Britain shoud fiuht. The streets have a normal appearance and there are no signs that Germany is on the verge of a world crisis. “The Times” Budapest correspondent says all are confident that Hungary will be able to stand out ol any conflict, which will be all the easier if Rumania stands by yesterday’s neutrality declaration. Hungary, in the event of war, will close the Bolish border but for the supply to Germany of foodstuffs, and will take normal precautions. “The Times” Rome correspondent says that although Rome appears calm, reports from the country show that normal precautions are being carried out. Motor lorries have been commandeered and several ships detained at ports. In Baris, complete calm prevails. Street lamps were darkened tonight. Gradual mobilisation is continuing. The Government has ordered the requisition ol al] factories working for national defence. In Brussels the Cabinet, at an emergency meeting, decided upon special measures Io assure a supply of provisions. Soldiers have been recalled from leave and the frontiers manned.
