CARTERTON v. MARTINBOROUGH. The Carterton Ladies’ Club will be represented by the following players in a match with Martinborough ladies at Martinborough on Tuesday next:— Miss Welch, Miss Berrill, Miss N. Campbell, Mrs Moroney, Mrs Murray, Mrs Colson, Miss M. Smart, Miss N. Renall, Miss T. Renall, Miss Lamb, Mrs Forbes, Mrs M. Campbell, Mrs Robinson, Mrs Riggs, Mrs R. N. Campbell. MEN’S CLUB. The draw for Saturday’s games to be played on the Taratahi links in connection with the second qualifying round of the club championship is as follows: — No. 1 tee: Shankland and Forbes; Clark and George; Smith and Goodin; Hart and Candy; Gustofson and Whitburn; Harrington and Steel; Krahagen and Brown; B. Beaven and J. Lawrence; Fitzgerald and Smart. No. 3 tee: Fisher and Taverner; Taylor ahd Colson; Roydhouse and Dwane; Hughes and Dudson; B. Booth and Riggs. No. 17 tee: E. T. Beaven and Aplin; S. Hill and Jackson; Callender and Harry; Tankersley and S. Booth; R. Lawrence and F. Hill. METHODIST CONCERT OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. Tn the Methodist Hall a concert was given by the Sunday School and Bible Class in aid of the school funds, a good number of parents and friends attending. The following took part: lan and Graham Stefl’ert, Ken and Jack Nightingale, Bill Worsfold, Douglas King. Betty Hodder, Audrey James, Beatrice Newbould, Dora Hunt, Yvonne Vile, Mavis Geange, Nola Sewell, Valerie Fitzgerald, Greta White, Lyn Fitzgerald and Ken White. Two plays were given by members of the Senior Girls’ Class and the Young Women’s Bible Class, and sdme exhibitions of play-ball exercises were directed by Mr Gaze. The Rev C. T. Symons, the newlyappointed Youth Director, was welcomed, and gave a brief address. A presentation was made to Mrs Wadham, who had devoted some time to training the scholars. The concert, which was brought to a conclusion with supper, was an outstanding success. PARCEL EVENING TO PROSPECTIVE BRIDE. The Dalefield Hall was crowded last night when well wishers assembled to tender a “parcel evening" to Miss L. Hodder, who is shortly to be married to Mr L. Farmer. The evening was spent in dancing which was greatly enjoyed. At an interval in the proceedings, Mr H. J. Bassett called upon the guest of the evening, Miss Hodder, to accept and open the many gift parcels given in honour of her approaching marriage. He voiced the sentiments of all present when he stated that he hoped that Miss Hodder would enjoy a happy wedded future. Miss Hodder opened the parcels with delight, revealing many valuable and useful presents. Mr Farmer, on behalf of his fiancee, suitably returned thanks. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr and Mrs W. Nielsen. The duties of V*«yi.C. were carried out by Messrs V. J. Ashton and M. J. Parker. The music was supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton and Mr G. Udy. Extras were played by Mr L. Parker (accordion) and Mr W. Nielsen. Supper was supplied by the ladies and a very pleasant gathering terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” BOY SCOUTS CARD TOURNAMENT. The weekly card tournament, conducted under the jurisdiction of the Boy Scout movement was held in the Band Room last evening and was well attended. A very pleasant time was spent, the prizes being won by Mrs O'Halloran and Mrs Edwards < ladies) and Messrs A. Patterson and N. O’Keefe (men). Supper was afterwards provided. BUILDING SOCIETY NEW DIRECTOR APPOINTED. A meeting of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society was held last night, Mr L. H. Smart being in the .chair. An appropriation ballot for £6OO went to Mrs J. Udy (Carterton). A loan was sold by tender, going to Mrs Bredin. Mr J. Jamieson was-appointed, a director in the place of Mr C. Reid who had resigned through ill health,
MINIATURE RIFLES. MATCH AGAINST EKETAHUNA. Fifteen members of the Carterton Miniature Rifle Club will journey to Eketahuna tonight to fire a match against the Eketahuna Club. » Personal. Mrs Louis Woods, of Napier, and her daughter, are the guests of Mrs N. R. Armstrong, Park'Road. Baker Busy. One of Carterton's bakers is having a busy time just now and it is understood that cakes are being made and 1 decorated for a silver wedding, a wedding of a Dalefield young lady and for three or four birthday parties. Fire Brigade Ball. A meeting of ladies interested in the Fire Brigade Eall was held in the tire station yesterday afternoon, when pro--1 gross was reported by the canvassing committees, showing that a very generous response had been made by residents of the borough both in cash and kind. Everything points to a very successful ball. Arrangements were made for various committees to carry into effect particular work in connection with the function and the ladies' committee who will be in charge of the supper ar rangements will make that part of the gathering an outstanding feature. The efforts of the ladies should considerably augment the new uniform fund.
