MAGISTRATE’S COURT

SITTING AT MASTERTON. MINOR OFFENCES DEALT WITH. The fortnightly sitting of the Masterton S.M. Court was held today, Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presiding. Charged with having parked a motor vehicle in Queen Street, Masterton, not parallel with the roadway and with the left side of the vehicle to the near side of the roadway, Alfred Percy Southey was fined 10s and 10s costs. On a further charge of failure to carry a warrant of fitness, Southey was fined 10s and Us costs. For having allowed the chimney of a dwelling, of which he was the occupier, to catch fire, John Donald Ross was fined 5s and 10s costs. On a similar charge Harry Weller was fined 5s and 10s costs. Alice Root, who was also charged with a similar offence, was fined 5s and 10s costs. Eric Wingate, who was charged with having operated a motor car during the hours of darkness without lights was fined 10s and 10s costs. Inspector D. C. Milne, Transport Department, stated that Wingate was travelling along the Opaki-Masterton main highway, behind another car whose lights were burning. When intercepted Wingate stated his lamps had fused and he was unable at that time of the night to obtain new fuses. For having failed to carry a warrant of fitness in her motor car, Ellen Holmwood was fined 10s and 12s costs. On a similar charge Arthur Robert Larsen was fined £1 and 10s costs. Inspector McGregor, who appeared for the Masterton Borough Council. stated that the warrant was. 15 months overdue. CIVIL CLAIMS. Judgment by default was given for plaintiff in the following civil claims: Walter Reid Welch v G. W. Pickering, claim, £95, 10s 2d. costs £6 3s 9d: Mascot Motors Ltd v J. Smith, £9 12s, costs £1 16s 6d: Gordon Hughan. Ltd v R. N. Shaw £lO3 15s, costs £6 7s; Jas Elliott and Co v W. B. Print?., £2 19s 6d. costs £1 3s fid; Hugo and Shearer Ltd v Ronald Norman Shaw, £6 10s I costs £1 10s 6d; Masterton Borough I Council v C. B. Cox, £5 10s lOd. costs £1 Ils 6d; Frank McKellar v Murray Frederick Nilsson, £1 3s, costs £1 15s.

On a judgment summons Arthur Roy Popple was ordered to pay Frank A. H. Taylor £1 17s 2d, in default two days’ imprisonment.

C. A. Corbett was ordered to pay Clarke’s Cash Drapery £7 ss. costs 15s 6d. in default seven days' imprisonment.
