ORGANISATION PLANNED IN AUSTRALIA COVER FOR MOBILISATION OF MILITIA. PROVISION FOR INTENSIVE TRAINING. 5y Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) CANBERRA. August 23. A shock force of 14,000 men is being recruited from the voluntary militia under a plan announced by tiie Prime Minister (Mr R. G. Menzies) its object being to act as a covering force to protect vulnerable points at the first sign of aggression, pending a general mobilisation of the militia. This plan has been substituted for the standing army proposal recommended by the Inspec-tor-General of the Australian Forces, Lieutenant-General E. K. Squires, and rejected by the Commonwealth Government last month. The camp period will consist of special intensive training of thirty-two days a year.
