WAIRARAPA R.S.A.
BIG INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP. TWO LIFE MEMBERS ELECTED. An enthusiastic meeting of members of the Wairarapa R.S.A. was held in the Savage Club Rooms last night. The president, Mr R. Whyborn, occupied the chair. There was an attendance of about 150 members, including four Royal Nursing Corps sisters. Mr Whyborn gave a detailed and informative review of the proceedings of the recent Dominion Conference of the New Zealand R.S.A., at which he represented the Wairarapa Association as delegate.
It was stated that the financial membership to date was 507, as compared with 376 in August, 1938. It was anticipated that at the present rate of increase the financial membership for the present financial year would touch the 700 mark.
In appreciation of years of continuous service in the interests of ex-ser-vice men, Messrs AV. J. White and L. S. Nicol were elected life members of the association. An invitation was received from the Salvation Army to attend a church parade early in September. It was decided that no parade be held but that members be invited to attend the service as individuals.
Mr Whyborn urged members to attend the public meeting called for tonight for the formation of a Territorial Association.
Mr I. I. McGregor gave a short but interesting' address on his recent tour of Great Britain.
