“THE STARS LOOK DOWN”

ACTORS TAKE JOBS SERIOUSLY. It is surprising how many actors on the “Stars Look Down” set are taking their jobs seriously. Michael Redgrave started it by going down a coal mine, and hewing coal. Now Edward Rigby has joined the east as Miner Fenwick, father of David, played by Michael Redgrave. Rigby is normally robust; in fact, too robust in Rigby's opinion, for his role of a miner, so that he immediately knocked off almost a stone in a month, by abstinence and hard work in a mine. When asked by the miners, how he managed it, he suggested that they should cut out potatoes, bread, and liquids. The potatoes and bread sounded all right to them, but there were some who thought otherwise about the liquids.
