RUGBY TOURNAMENT. FINAL WON BY HALCOMBE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., August 23. Twenty-five teams from as far afield as Waimarino in the north and Westmere in the Wanganui district, to Levin in the south, competed in the young farmers’ seven-a-side Rugby tournament for the Cope Cup, held in Palmerston North today. Halcombe B beat Oroua Downs, 9-0, in the final. The tournament was conducted by the Manawatu district committee of the Young Farmers’ Clubs under the direction of Mr L. Earl, of the Department of Agriculture. Other officials were: Call stewards, Messrs P. Thevenard and D. Rowlands; blackboard, Mr J. Holden; gatekeepers, Mr K. Mitchell and assistants. The referees were Messrs B. L. Holdsworth, R. Young, P. Waugh and C. Taylor. In the first round Carterton defaulted to Apiti A.
