A. delegate to the conference of the National Union of Railwaymen, representing 36.000 employees, decided not to participate in the strike but to resubmit the claim for a wage of £2 10s a week to a national tribunal. There is no co-operation between the society and the union. The Ministry of Labour is likely to prohibit the withdrawal of workers, who number 56.000. in view of a possible national emergency.
