TERRIBLE TRAGEDY
SIX MAORI CHILDREN BURNED TO DEATH
TRAPPED IN BLAZING HOUSE.
DURING ABSENCE OF PARENTS.

A terrible tragedy' occurred last night at a Maori land development settlement about eight miles past the Tongariro bridge on the National Park — Taupo Highway, when six Maori children were burned to death.
The parents, Edward Biddle and his wife, both Maoris, put the six children to bed in the house, and with their infant went to spend the evening with neighbours. Another neighbour later discovered the house in flames and called the Biddles, who got all the children out of the house, but not before they had been severely burned.
The Taumarunui ambulance was sent for and the children were brought to hospital, one dying during the journey and the other five dying in hospital. The names and ages of the children were: —Tony, 9; Martin, 8: Ngapire, 7; James. 6; Reremata, 5; and Armstrong 6.
