TALK OF PEACE MOVE BY ITALY INITIATE £ IN CALLING CONFERENCE. BRITISH CIRCLES DENY KNOWLEDGE. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. LONDON, August 21. Interest in the swiftly-moving drama has temporarily moved to Rome, which is tense with excitement and seething with speculation. The British Associated Press believes that the events of recent days indicate thill a concrete formula for negotiation is imminent, the rejection or acceptance of which will decide whether Europe’s problems will be solved at the conference table or on the battlefield. Attention is drawn to the increasing general use of the words "cler Tag” (•'the day") in Berlin. Reuter’s agency reports the possibility of the Italian Foreign Minister. Count Ciano. calling a conference of the British. French and Polish Ambassadors in a last effort to reach a settlement. British circles deny knowledge of such initiative, but it is understood that the British Ambassador’s interview with Count Ciano. which was postponed on Friday because of the arrival of the Hungarian Foreign Minister. Count Csaky. will be resumed today. The Italian Ambassador in Berlin, Signor Attolico, has arrived from Munich to consult Count Ciano. It is expected that Count Csaky will return to Rome today to see Count Ciano. GAYDA’S VERSION MUSSOLINI WILL NOT MEDIATE. (Received This Day. 10.5 a.m.) ROME, August 21. Signor Virgino Gayda, in the “Giornale d'ltalia,” says Signor Mussolini will not mediate over Danzig and has already told Poland to negotiate directly with Germany and make the necessary adjustments, or suffer the consequences.
