NORDERN CUP NELSON BEAT MARLBOROUGH, f THIRD CHALLENGE WITHSTOOD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON. August 19. In good conditions, the Nelson hockey representatives withstood the third challenge for the Nordon Cup. easily beating Marlborough by five to nil. The holders led 2-0 at half-time, and in the second half overran the visitors. There wore brilliant movements among the forwards. The scorers were: Best (2). Allport (2), Weston. WAIRARAPA GAMES HASTWELLS LEAD IN CHAMPIONSHIP. CARTERTON AND KIWI DRAW. Ideal conditions prevailed for the continuation of the Wairarapa Hockey Association’s championship games played on Saturday afternoon. As the result of a drawn game between Carterton and Kiwi, Hastwells now take the lead in the senior championship by one point from Carterton. The Kiwi and Carterton game was a great struggle and produced some excellent hockey. Kiwi gained a two goal lead in the first spell, but found the pace too hot .in the second half and Carterton got up in time to even the score which ended at 2 all. On the Lansdowne grounds Dalefield were too superior for Wesley and took the match by 7/3. Hastwells had the l?ye. The junior division still leaves College and Wesley on level terms in the championship. Wesley defeated Greytown on Saturday by 6/3. The CollegeCarterton game was postponed on account of the College team taking part in the secondary schools tournmnent at Wanganui. College Old Boys caused a surprise by defeating Dalefield by 3/1 at Carterton. College Old Boys have been very unlucky this season, having the bare team only. They have been forced to play many of their games short handed. But for this they would have been much closer to the leaders. Resulfs:— Senior. Kiwi and Carterton drew, 2 all. Dalefield beat Wesley, 7/3. Hastwells a bye. Junior. College Old Boys beat Dalefield, 3/1. Wesley beat Greytown, 6/3. Third Grade. Greytown Scouts beat Carterton, 5/2. Wesley beat College by default. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.

There was no senior women's hockey on Saturday, but on the Lansdowne grounds the Wairarapa tournament team were given a good practice game by a second eleven. There was only two junior women’s games on Saturday owing to the school holidays. College A by defeating Featherston on Saturday are practically assured of the junior championship. The competition will be finalised next Saturday when College A will meet their B team. Results: — College A beat Featherston, 6/L. Excelsior beat College Old Girls, 9/2. Carterton beat College B by default. FIJIAN TEAM VICTORY AGAINST AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, August 19. The Fijian hockey team beat Auckland today by 1 goal to nil.
