HARRIER ACTIVITIES

MASTERTON CLUB. TRAINING RUN ON SATURDAY. The Masterton Harrier Club held u beneficial training run of seven miles on Saturday afternoon, in preparation for the visit of the Wanganui Harrier - Club at the next weekend for the : Benson Gate Trophy contest. In the absence of Messrs J. J. Hunter and R. Bell (trail layers), Messrs I. Shaw and C. J. Carlo went out with the paper and laid a splendid trail. Leaving the Te Ore Ore Bridge the trail went north along the stopbanks, veered around through streams and heavy broom, across country for a mile or so, turned around westwards and came up the Castlepoint Highway' lo a side road. Following the road right down to the Ruamahunga River, the trail then led along the river bank, over a high pile of gravel at the stonecrushcr, down the Te Ore Ore Road and turned left through paddocks down to the saleyard's bridge, and home along the stopbank. A good muster of members turned out and it is expected that the club will make a good showing next Saturday. R. N. Shaw showed fitness to come home, first, while H. Carle, C. K. Long, A. Andrew, C. Orr and G. Wickens showed up well. The winner of the 'Willis 'Trophy. W. M. Sellar, was another popular runnel- who made an appearance on Saturday. KIATERE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RACES. The Kiatere Harrier Club on Saturday hold a Gj-mile club championship from Solway. The juniors also held a 3 1-8 mile club championship race. The detailed results are:— Seniors: W. Burgess (37min l.Vsee) 1. W. MacDonald (37rnin 45sec'i 2, W. Burns (38min l.asec) 3. A. MacDonald 4. J. Laing 5. Juniors: M. Doyle 1. N. Jacobsen 2. F. Sexton 3, C. Summers 4. B. Laing 5. Training runs will be held from the Park Oval on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The run next week will be an invitation race from Mr and Mrs G. Laing’s residence at. Upper Plain for the Rewenui Trophy presented by Mr Liverion. Blairlogie. At present, the holder. D. Nelson, should be very hard to beat.
