♦ GROWING OF POTATOES ACTIVITY OF GROWERS. ("Times-Age” Special ) Ground that has not before been put into cultivation for crops is being turned over by plough and spade in readiness for the planting of potatoes. The acute shortage and the high price is the cause of this activity. Given suitable weather conditions it looks as though this year’s shortage may be turned into a glutted market; but then again there will be sure to be a big demand in Wellington City and suburbs to cater for meals for the large crowds that will visit the Centennial Exhibition. Not only will potatoes be in demand but other vegetables. Eggs in particular will be wanted. Already large quantities of eggs are being enquired for. GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP FIRST ROUND RESULTS.
