REPRESENTATIVE GAMES
WELLINGTON v. OTAGO. NARROW WIN FOR HOME TEAM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 29. Ry seven points to three Wellington beat Otago at Athletic Park on Saturday, but the less impressive team won. Wellington had a feast of the ball because of their low and tight scrummaging and Lambourn's skilful hooking, and because of the great allround play of the pack, which was also superior in the line-outs. They were thus able to dictate the rum of the play, and generally had Otago on the defensive for the greater part of the game, but there was no penetrative power in the backs, and it was only Taylor's initiative that enabled the home side to leave the field victors. Taylor polled a magnificent field goal and also took a hand in a passing movement to crash through a tackle and score, thus securing Wellingtons only points. Mitchell scored a try for Otago. BUSH v. NORTH OTAGO. WIN FOR VISITORS. OAMARU, August 19. After a ragged game on a heavy ground in fine weather, Bush beat North Otago, 12-11. In the first half the Bush forwards held the advantage. Johnston scored a try and Twentyman kicked two penalty goals. In the second half the North Otago backs went better. Harris scored for Bush. For North Otago McLaren kicked a penalty goal, McCabe scored a try which Johnston converted, and Johnston also goaled from a penalty.
Other representative games resulted as follows: —Auckland 6, Taranaki 6; Ashburton 19, Manawatu 8; Hawke’s Bay 11, Canterbury 3; North Island Minor Union 22, South Island 9.
