DEATH OF COMMANDER WILD.
DESCENDANT OF CAPTAIN
COOK

The death has occurred at Klerksdorp of Commander Frank Wild, hitherto the only living descendant of Captain Cook. He lived in penury in South Africa for many years. Commander Wild spent ten years in Antarctica, a record for explorers.
Commander Wild was born in Skelton, Yorkshire, in 1874. He accompanied Captain Scott to the Antarctic in the Discovery, 1901-4; Shackleton 1907-9 and Mawson 1911-13. He was second in command of the Quest in 1921. He was awarded the Patron’s Medal of the Royal Geographical Society in 1924.
