The Bratislava correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain reporls that the radio station announced: “Owing Io the existing situation. Germany has taken military possession of Slovakia. GERMAN INTIMATION MADE IN ENGLISH. ARMY AND RESERVISTS TAKEN OVER. (Received This Day, 12.45 a.m.) LONDdN. August 18. The announcement of the taking over of Slovakia, was for some unexplained reason, made in English, which few Slovakians understand. It is reliably learned that the German-Slovak agreement places the army of 30,000 and reservists numbering 300,000 under German command. EVENT ANTICIPATED POSSIBLE PREPARATION FOR WAR. (Received This Day, 12.45 p.m.) LONDON, August 18. “The Times" says Germany's establishment of a military protectorate over Slovakia has not surprised London as it enables her to put further pressure upon Hungary, while it strengthens and deepens the Reich's south-eastern flank in the event of war against Poland.
