ACCORDING TO NAZI SPOKESMAN
Would Be as Big a Disaster as to Lose War BRITISH AND FRENCH ATTITUDE APPRECIATED TOO LATE THREAT OF EARLY ACTION AT DANZIG (By Telegraph.—Press Association—Copyright.) ('Received This: Day. 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, August IS. “The Times” Berlin correspondent says it would be as big a disaster to Germany to turn back now as 1o lose a war, according to a declaration by one Nazi spokesman. There is reason to believe that Herr Hitler's plan for a settlement at Danzig- may be put into effect within the next few days. “The Allgemeine Zeitung” says: “We can count on the lingers of our hands how many more days tin 1 Poles will be masters of the sitnation.” Official circles emphasise that Germany will not forego any of her demands whatever the cost. It appears that the British and French attitude is at last appreciated, but too late to enable Germany to back down. The antiPolish Press atrocity campaign has been increased, but is not impressing the public, whose attitude is one of worried apathy. “The Times” Warsaw correspondent says Gorman troop movements are not yet so abnormal as to be concentrations for immediate attack but the Poles are watchful.
