FEILDING SALE. FAT SHEEP PRICES ADVANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING. August 18. Because of the inundation of a large proportion of the country side as a result of floods, there were smaller yardings at the Feilding sale held today. The demand, however, was not affected, and with a few exceptions in the case of station cattle, all stocks sold strongly. Fat sheep: Some excellently finished ewe mutton was yarded, and. under keen competition, prices advanced about 3s a head. The quality of the wethers and lambs was not as good as at previous sales, but the demand held firm. Extra prime ewes made 29s 6d. prime 25s 6d to 26s Bd, unfinished 17s 8d to 18s. inferior 9s 3d to 12s 8d; prime wethers 22s 3d to 23s 6d, second grade 20s 6d to 225, light 16s 6d to 19s lOd; best lambs 18s 6d to 20s Bd, unfinished 25s Id to 17s Id. Store sheep: The inquiry for hoggets was again sound, but a small penning robbed the sale of interest. A few ewes were available, all making good prices. Good two-tooth ewes made 26s 7d, mixed age 21s 2d, poorer sorts 17s 7d; fair four-year ewes 20s ; ewe hoggets 18s 7d; best wether hoggets 13s, second grade 10s 2d to 11s; small 6s 8d; two-tooth wethers 14s; aged ewes 5s lOd to Bs. Store cattle: The wej. state of the pastures had an effect on the demand for station cattle. Not a great many were sold at auction, most being disposed of by private treaty afterward. Small yearling A.A. steers made £3 16s to £3 18s. others £2 16s; two-year A.A. steers, good £5 16s, smaller £4 5s to £4 15s; well-grown two-year Hereford steers £5 Ils to £5 16s, yearling A.A. heifers £3 12s; weaner m.c. steers £1 12s 6d; empty A.A. cows £2 Bs, Hereford £3 13s; yearling Jersey heifers £2 15s; speyed cows £3 19s; boner cows £1 12s 6d to £2 Ils. Fat cattle: A small but select quality entry. The female beef made improved prices, the cows and heifers not being heavy, but well finished. Light prime Hereford cows made £7 ss, others £5 8s to £6 7s 6d; medium prime A.A. cows £8 to £8 14s, lighter £5 15s to £7; medium prime Hereford heifers £7 10s to £8 15s, unfinished £5 to £5 13s; ex-dairy cows £4 to £5 7s 6d; runners £2 15s, Dairy cattle: A drop in price for all dairy stock took place, the quality of the entry not being up to the standard of recent sales. Best springing heifers made £9 5s to £lO 15s, second quality £7 5s to £9; late calvers £4 5s to £6; good springing cows £9 10s to £10; September calvers £7 to £B, backward sorts £4 ss. Pigs: Slips 21s to 21s 6d; stores 24s to 255. CARTERTON SALE. DAIRY HERDS BRING LATE RATES. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report as follows on their Carterton sale yesterday:—A large yarding of dairy cattle was submitted comprising complete herds from Mr H. T. Hunter and Mr J. B. Johns, which sold well up to late rates. Cows and heifers close to profit sold freely, but late calvers were hard to quit. No sheep were yarded and only a small number of pigs came forward. Realisations were as follows: — Pigs: Slips, 28s 6d, 23s 6d; weaners. 21s 6d, 225, 20s; porkers, 35s to 465. Cattle: Springing heifers, £lO, £9 15s, £9, £8 ss, £7 10s to £6; ditto cows, £l2, £ll 10s, £lO, £9 15s, £8 to £7; springing cows, late calvers, £4 12s 6d, £4, £3 15s, £3 2s 6d to £2 10syearling heifers, £3, £2 6s and £l- - steer, £6; fat cows, £4 5s to £3 10s; store cows, £2 to 15s; bulls, £4.
