MOCK AIR WAR
FRENCH RAIDS ON BRITAIN MOST OF THE MACHINES INTERCEPTED. HORNCHURCH AERODROME "WIPED OUT.” By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, August 17. French practice air raids on Britain did not approach the system or spectacular quality of last week’s Royal Air Force raids. The Frenchmen almost without exception were intercepted and engaged, or if battle was not given, they were spotted by the ground organisations. A surprise party of raiders suddenly swooped on the Hornchurch Aerodrome, which could be considered blotted out. but interceptors later took toll of the raiders. CLOSE COOPERATION MOST INTERESTING RESULTS OBTAINED. (Received This Day, 12.45 p.m.) PARIS, August 17. The Air Ministry in a statement, said the manoeuvres were a contribution to air co-operation between England and France, which daily becomes closer and more efficacious. The English and French detector services worked in perfect liaison and obtained most interesting results.
