WALLACE BEERY
AND HIS ADOPTED DAUGHTER. Wallace Beery is back with the only girl in the world who really understands him, and they’ve just begun a new life together. The girl is Carol Ann, his eight-year-old adopted daughter. Wally has gain cd what amounts to permanent custody of the child in a sequel to the smash up of his marriage of 15 years in a Nevada divorce court last May. Under a previously arranged property settlement Beery reportedly handed over 100,000 dollars to his ex-wife. Under the same agreement it was decided that Mrs Beery should have custody of the child for’ six months and Beery for the other half of the year. Before the divorce Mrs Beery told reporters that there was no other man in her life, but a scant week after the divorce she was married to Albert Foyt. New York broker. This evidently changed Wally’s point of view concerning Carol Ann, and he flew to Reno twice in the week to persuade his wife to give him permanent custody of the child. His last visit was successful, and Carol Ann returned with him. He immediately enrolled her in a private school, and settled a trust fund on her so that she will be well taken care of fn case of his death. Beery's worship of Carol Ann is one of the lovely things in Hollywood. He tells everyone, “She understands me.” They are inseparable, and always
seem to have so much fun together. He took her to the races a few days ago and treated her like a grown-up, and she was terribly excited. Now he has decided to adopt a playmate for her, or perhaps another boy and girl. Carol wants him to choose two children just her age and is demanding their birthdays be on the same day as hers. She says it will be much better- to have one big party every year. Carol Ann is the daughter of the half-sister of the ex-Mrs Beery’s mother.
