MEETING (IE WAIRARAPA UNION
REDMOND CUP COMPETITION
REPRESENTATIVE FIXTURES.
("Times-Age” Special.)
The fortnightly meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union was held in the P. and A. Society's board room last evening. Mr H. A. McPhee presiding. All delegates were present excepting Messrs £. B. Booth and H. J. Benge. for whom apologies were rereceived. Accounts amounting to £ll5 7s lid were presented. The Stock and Station Agents, Masterton applied for and were granted the use of Memorial Park at a charge of £1 for their annual football match. A vote of thanks was accorded the Wairarapa College Pipe Band for a donation of £2 2s towards the union's funds.
The Masterton Club was granted permission to play lower grade matches with Lower Hutt on Saturday, September 2.
A complaint of a lower grade coach with regard to a referee was referred to the Referees’ Association for its consideration.
A Wairarapa College player, T. Rankin, who has left College, was transferred to Rod Star Club.
Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay unions wrote expressing thanks for the warm hospitality that had been given I heir touring teams. The New Zealand Rugby Union wrote inviting nominations of players for inclusion in the North Island team (rial games and the New Zealand Maori teams. The matter was referred to the sole selector. Mr K. Reid.
The proposed junior representative' game with the Bush was held over pending enquiries. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded Messrs K. Reid, E. B. Booth. S. Hensen and J. C. Harp for placing their cars at the disposal of the union for the entertaining of visiting football teams. It was decided to commence the Redmond Cup elimination games in the senior grade on Saturday as follows: —Carterton v Old Boys, at Carterton; Gladstone v Rod Star, at Gladstone; Greytown v Masterton, at Greytown. The Wairarapa junior representative game with Wellington will be played at Memorial Park, Masterton. on Saturday next. Kick off at 2.30 p.m. The manager will be Mr Gordon Udy, and the referee, Mr E. Grantham. It was decided that the third grade competition be closed at the end of the second round, and the fourth grade to be completed at the close of .the third round.
The Wairarapa College v Gladstone third grade game set down for Saturday next will not bo played until a later date.
Mr Keith Reid was appointed manager of the Wairarapa senior representative team for the game to bo played at Palmerston North on September 9. Transport of team will be by bus. and the Manawatu Union will appoint a referee. Messrs H. A. McPhee, chairman of the union and S. Hensen were appointed to represent the union at the Primary School’s tournament dinner. The next meeting of the Union will bo hold on Thursday, August 31.
