GREYTOWN
BOWLING CLUB ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Greytown Bowling Club was held in the Working Men's Club last evening. Mr F. Donnes presided over a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. G. Carter and R. Page. In presenting the report for the past year Mr Denncs complimented the members on the good spirit shown during the past year. Mr N. S. McLeod presented the balance sheet for the past year which showed that the funds of the club had considerably improved. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr F. Donnes for his gift of 120 ft. of hose.' The secretary of the Wairarapa Bowling Centre advised that the annual meeting would be held on September 8. Two new members were elected and one resignation received. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr W. H. Day; president, Mr V/. Kilgour; vice-presidents. Messrs G. Burns and T. Connolly; committee. Messrs F. Donnes, P. Kenning, G. Brunton. L. Curtis and J. Burden; delegates, Messrs W. Kilgour. H. G. Carter and N. McLeod; selector, Mr P. Kenning; match committee, Messrs W. Kilgour, G. Burns and F. Dennes; treasurer, Mr N. S. McLeod; secretary, Mr H. J. Nightingale; green supervisor. Mr T. Connolly.
The subscriptions were fixed at £2 10s, reducable to £2 2s if paid before December 31. and for new members 255, reducable to 20s if paid before December 31.
The delegates were instructed to vote for a continuance of the Booth Cup fixture. A vote of thanks to the retiring officers closed a successful meeting. The annual report referred to the deaths of Mr D. P. Loasby and Captain Barcham and to various events held during the past year. The prospects for the coming season were quite favourable. Thanks were accorded members who had assisted the club and to the ladies’ committee. GOLF DRAW FOR SATURDAY. The draw for an L.G.U. medal round and the final round of the Stableford competition (Mrs Gold's trophy) to be played by (he ladies at Greytown on Saturday is as follows: — Seniors and intermediates: Mrs Horner v. Mrs Thompson, 12.30 p.m.; Mrs Gold v. Miss Nix. 12.33; Miss M. Collier v. Miss Eccles, 12.36; Mrs Ward v. Miss E. Gregor, 12.39: Mrs Balfour v. Mrs Jury, 12.42; Mrs Ross v. Miss R. Collier. 12.45; Miss B. Gregor v. Miss J. Feast, 12.48; Mrs G. Ingley v. Miss Kiernan. 12.51: Mrs Gregor v. Mrs C. Ingley, 12.54; Mrs R. Ingley v. Mrs Maddison, 12.57.
Juniors: To play hidden holes competition for Mrs Thompson's trophy (11 holes from No. 5): Miss Tully v. Mrs Wiggins, 12.45 p.m.; Mrs Dunnet v. Miss Stevens. 12.50: Mrs Nicholson v. Miss Skect, 12.55; Miss Wiggins v. another. High School Sports. Yesterday the Carterton football and basketball teams journeyed to Greytown to play a series of matches. The home teams were the victors, winning all their matches. In the basketball Greytown won the A grade by 17 goals to 9 and the B grade by 14 goals to 5. The football was won by 17 to 5. The Greytown backs were in good form and the Carterton forwards were prominent in the loose rucking. Bridge Afternoon. The weekly bridge party in aid of the Plunket Society’s funds was held yesterday afternoon in the Plunket rooms. ■ The winner for the afternoon was Mrs A. Haigh.
